I saw this movie today, "All the Bright Places", and I was completely taken aback by how ordinary the movie is. It does not give you the exaggerated romance nor does it give you physics defying action and adventure. But let me tell you, it does give you romance, and it does give you action and adventure. But not just how you would expect it to.
It shows how two opposites attract and in time, the so called opposites turn out to be similar to each other. Love makes that happen, doesn't it? It makes you fall in love not only with the person's soul but everything that person does. The music they listen to, the comfort food they eat, the places they visit, the darkness they cherish, and the brightness they emit. All of it becomes your favourite too, and when you find yourself sulking, doing their things fires your spirit. I defy the ideology, "You gotta compromise in love", because why would you do so if you too can fall in love with those small elements the other person loves so deeply.
Drifting a car, and damn, even a bike, is appealing but how do you feel about drifting your heart through the inner turmoil that life presents to you on a silver platter? The movie takes us through those turmoils, and to me, that is outright adventorous. You learn how the small moments in life actually matter. You don't have to climb a mountain to stand on the highest point. You don't have to drive too fast to feel the breeze grazing against your face. You don't have to be loud in order to convey you love someone. Even the ugliest of places turn out to be the most beautiful, if you just have the time to look. Don't look at something. Look through. Through to the beauty that it hides.
Be someone who dreams while staying awake. You don't have to grasp everything. The little you grasp, the more tenderly you treat it. Small moments are exactly like that. You don't need music to dance when you can dance to the bass of pains pumping though your heart. You don't need a guitar to sing when the walls of your bathroom are enough to echo the music. The movie shows none of this, but at the same time, it teaches you so much more. And by climax, you'll have a clear perspective what more there is to life. And sometimes, a movie this ordinary teaches you some ordinary lessons which can unlock the infinitely extraordinary capacities you have.
